The charming church at Old Hamsey, East Sussex

The beautiful setting and the knowledge that it has been a places of worship for 1000 years and more (certainly pre-Conquest) imbue the building with a magic that was only accentuated on my visit on late summer afternoon. It sits on a little hillock above a meander in the river Ouse

It is reported that in 925 King Athelstan had a meeting of his counsellors here but sadly nowadays the fabric of the building is in need of love. The Friends of Hamsey Church are working on that.
